Editorial Design

No Chaser Magazine

Project Overview

Role
Design Director

No Chaser Magazine is a biannual print publication centered on style, culture, and conversation. As Design Director, I shaped the magazine’s visual language across each issue, creating a design system that feels confident, immersive, and editorially precise.

My approach focused on building a reading experience with strong pacing, clear hierarchy, and a distinct visual rhythm. I am interested in editorial design that feels intentional without becoming rigid, where typography, image selection, and structure work together to give each story clarity, atmosphere, and presence. The goal was to create a publication that feels cohesive from cover to cover while still giving individual features room to speak in their own voice.

⟣ Distinctive Cover Art Direction

The cover sets the tone for the entire issue, so I approached each one as both an editorial statement and a point of entry. From image selection to typography and composition, every decision was made to create something immediate, memorable, and aligned with the character of the issue. I wanted the covers to feel confident and restrained, with enough presence to stand out while still reflecting the publication’s broader visual identity.

⟣ Narrative Driven Layout Systems

For me, editorial design is as much about rhythm as it is about composition. I use pacing, white space, typography, and image relationships to shape how a reader moves through a story. With No Chaser, the layouts were designed to feel immersive and considered, giving the content room to breathe while maintaining a clear visual structure throughout the publication.

⟣ Editorial Execution and Production

Alongside the creative direction, I also oversaw the production side of the magazine to ensure the work translated with the same level of care in print. That included preparing press ready files, managing color consistency, and maintaining accuracy across image assets, layout details, trim, and bleed. The goal was to preserve the integrity of the design from screen to final printed piece.

✦ Project Insight

What matters most in my editorial work is creating a balance between structure and feeling. I want the design to guide the reader clearly, but never feel overcontrolled or predictable. With No Chaser, I approached the magazine as a complete visual experience, where pacing, restraint, and image led storytelling work together to give the publication its own lasting presence.
